Ever since its founding in the 1990s, Max Myanmar Group of Companies has been a truly pan-Asian business. Founded by the Burmese businessman Zaw Zaw in 1993, Max Myanmar has grown to become one of Myanmar’s most successful firms. During the company’s first few years of operations, Zaw – still Chairman of the firm today – was based in Japan. From this strategic location in Asia’s booming economy, he created Max Myanmar with the intention of importing buses from Japan. Soon, the firm started importing other products and later diversified into other areas of the economy, such as construction, highways, tourism, manufacturing and hospitality.
