A leading producer of diabetes care equipment and drugs, Danish firm Novo Nordisk has been in operation since 1923. In 2010 Novo Nordisk recorded revenues of $10.5bn, and is pursuing extensive growth in operations after strong financial results in 2012. It was voted the most sustainable company in the world by trade magazine Corporate Knights as a result of its belief that access to essential medicines is a basic human right. It sells insulin to 33 of the world’s poorest countries at a fraction of the price available in more developed western countries.
