Formerly a state owned organisation, Enel is now partly owned by Italian banking firm Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. Although ownership has been known to float somewhat, the company has continued to diversify throughout many different markets and sustain the need for change in energy market perceptions. Most recently, Enel’s operations in Bulgaria branched into green energy and began investing in carbon friendly solutions. It is also at the forefront of the proposed “smart grid” solution in energy management, which will allow consumers to recognise more sustainable times to use electricity, depending on the grid itself.
