JC Penney had a tumultuous couple of years under former Apple executive Ron Johnson, but his replacement by previous CEO Mike Ullman proved to be a move for the company.
In 2015, the retailer posted impressive growth, with a 3.4 percent rise in comparable sales in the first quarter. The success was all the more significant given it occurred at a time when several rival brands had strug- gled. JC Penney has been on a roll ever since, with its manage- ment team currently focusing on improving its omnichannel business prospects. They hope that doing this can improve digital platforms for customers, which would further solidify JC Penney’s place at the top of the retail market.
