System, Mess und Anlagentechnik (SMA), the German acronym for “control, measuring and equipment technology”, is a German solar energy equipment supplier. SMA Solar Technology accounts for approximately 40 percent of the global market, and last year the company fetched €1.9bn in sales – making them a clear global leader in the development, production and sale of solar photovoltaic modules. Founded in 1981 and headquartered in Niestetal, Germany, SMA employs just over 5,500 people. Despite a strong position in the current market, the company has established a long term and sustainable strategic plan that should herald outstanding results by 2014.
