Ford Motor Company

Founded by the inventor of large-scale car manufacturing, Henry Ford, in 1903, Ford Motor Company is considered one of the most important companies in US history. The firm is currently outpacing other auto-industry leaders with strong sales in the US, Canada and emerging markets. The company has invested $8m in a lab at the University of Michigan to research more efficient power sources for electric cars. Around 1,400 new employees were hired at the Flat Rock Assembly plant after a $555m investment. The company aims to hire 6,500 new employees across the US, halfway to their goal of creating 12,000 jobs by 2015, and continues to innovate in a competitive market.
